Hobart Public Library

"Making books, periodicals, and other materials available to the community for the pursuit of entertainment, education, and information."

In April 1911 Judge J. R. Tolbert wrote to the Carnegie Foundation in New York city asking its help in establishing a library in Hobart. As a result of this appeal, the Carnegie foundation gave $10,000 to pay for a library building. The contract was signed on January 29, 1912 and the library was ready by September of that same year. The first librarian was Rev. J. B. Black and thanks to these historical efforts Hobart is able to offer many wonderful learning tools to the city.

As Head Librarian Gloria Boelte hopes that each visit to the library is a fun and positive experience by providing programs for children and adults alike.  Some of the services are Internet access, fax and copy machine, income tax forms, literacy help, and delivery to shut-ins and  nursing homes.  There is a reading and discussion series for adults and special summer programs for children.  The library also provides best sellers, westerns mysteries, Christian fiction, large print books, audio books, magazines and newspapers.  The library board and staff are dedicated to making the library a valuable and integral part of our community.
